"Isn't that interesting?"
Complaining that details of a classified Intelligence Estimate, which doesn't jive with the rosy portrayal that he and members of his administration (ahem... can you say Cheney?) have painted, had been leaked, President Bush today said,
"Here we are, coming down the homestretch of an election campaign and it's on the front page of your newspapers. Isn't that interesting?"
Yes, it is interesting. And while I certainly don't condone leaking classified information, there are other things that I've found equally interesting and by the very same token.
For example, I found the repeated elevated terror threat warnings during the "homestretch" of the 2004 election campaign very interesting. Even more interesting was how they dropped off dramatically once Bush had secured re-election.
I also find it interesting that Bush would complain that this IE was leaked for "political purposes" when he himself has cited the war against terrorism on the campaign trail as a reason folks should vote for Republicans.
Maybe the next book on his presidential reading list ought to be The Boy Who Cried Wolf.
