Texas Follies: Independents, GOPers and Dems do battle
In Texas the two Independents running for Governor, Richard "Kinky" Friedman and Carole Keeton "Grandma" Strayhorn are fighting over whether Strayhorn may have "Grandma" added to the official ballot. Not wanting to be sidelined, the GOP and Dem candidates are weighing in on the issue as well. Texas law allows nicknames to be added to official ballots under certain guidelines and the arguments are over whether Strayhorn meets those guidelines.
"Strayhorn's demand that her political slogan be put on the ballot is completely absurd and reveals a politician fast becoming irrelevant," said Perry (his real name is James Richard Perry, but he is allowed to run as "Rick") spokesman Robert Black. "Kinky Friedman may tell jokes, but the Strayhorn campaign is teetering on the edge of becoming one." Which probably says more about how keen Republicans are to mute Strayhorn's conservative threat than anything else.
Meanwhile Texas Democrats have temporarily won a skirmish in their court battle to force disgraced GOP Congressman Tom "I am the government" DeLay's name on the ballot as the official Republican candidate in his district.

Yes, I think it's very interesting that the Dems in particular are reacting so heavily to Strayhorn's campaign. After all, since they (the Dems) have failed to perform as the "party of opposition", they have little else to go on....

Yeah, it's a microcosm of the Dem's troubles nationwide.
Kinky is going to be labeled "antigrandma" if he isn't careful
