Reforming Congress

I had never heard of this perk before; But, evidently Members of Congress can accept rides on corporate jets and only pay back the regular rates they would if they had flown commercial.

Senators had pushed for an amendment to end this practice and were defeated....by members of both sides. Sen Feinstein said it would be a hardship not to have this perk.

I don't think I need to add much....it's business as usual inside the Beltway.

Nice job, Don! Your post here got picked up by Salon Magazine's Daou Report. Currently the link is down on the bottom of the left-hand sidebar.

The GOP leadership in Congress has lately been defending these corporate free rides as essential to members of Congress staying abreast of the important issues facing them legislatively. Basically the argument is that an informed member of Congress, regardless of the corporate role, is better than an uninformed member.

What strikes me immediately when I hear that rationalization is... How much do member of Congress get paid? $162,000. And they need free corporate rides... why?

It is pretty cool indeed. Someone there must be reading Indie Castle because one of James' post last week was also picked up by the Daou Report.
