Oregon Independents revolt

The Oregonian has a really interesting piece today about how Oregon Independents demand to be heard at polls.

At issue is an open primary initiative called One Ballot, One Oregon that is backed by newly minted Indie candidate for Governor Ben Westlund among others... like myself.

Here's the way I see this. It's really very, very simple and completely black and white. No shades of grey whatsoever.

If my money, via taxes, goes to pay for it then I deserve an equal voice. Period! The current system amounts to taxation without representation and is inherently undemocratic for that reason.

If Democrats and/or Republicans don't want non-party members to have a voice in their selection process then they need to pay for the damn selection process themselves. Period!

That actually makes perfect sense. Over the years I haven't really paid much attention to the primary process; the thought being that it is an internal party matter. However, if the party wants to run it....the party should pay for it.
