I Don't Care

I am tired.

I am sick and tired of the silly news that follow stories that have no real impact on what is going on in the world. I don't care if Cheney had a drink or not before the accident. I am sick of the jokes and the follow-up stories etc. etc.

I want to hear about the UN report involving Guantanamo.

I want to hear about the pictures of Abu Ghraib.

These are the things that should matter to us. These are the stories that are defining us as Americans across the rest of the world.

Hear, hear!

The only newsworthy part of the whole shooting incident, IMHO, is that it revealed what we already knew about the White House - that they are obsessed about secrecy and controlling their image. Other than that... it was just a horrible hunting accident that happened to involve a famous asshole.

There are much more important things than whether Darth Cheney had a drink before, afterwards or ever for that matter.

Actually--I disagree.

I think the news on Cheney is very relevant..and offers insight into the coverups perpetuated by this White House.

Its symptomatic of what's going on in the Executive Branch..and they can't use the "national security" excuse to thwart questioning. Its a story that's relatable to a lot of people..because its about human interest rather than policy.

Its these relatable stories that engage the public...and have the power to pull them further into the more wonkier aspects of what's going on in DC. That's what gives them relevance and importance.

While it might not be interesting to those of us who are tuned in to the policy--it can go a long way to providing a watershed moment for those who previously haven't been paying attention.

I think it's potentially a two-edged sword. What you say makes sense, Carla. But, there's a risk of being perceived by the general public as piling on and that could produce the opposite effect. I personally have avoided writing about it for that very reason.
