The Switcheroo
So, in Washington DC, how does one keep an investigation from really being an investigation? Get it transferred to the intelligence Committee run by our favorite Bush whore, Sen Pat Roberts.
According to Nat Hentoff of the Village Voice, that is exactly what the GOP Senate is trying to do.
If Arlen Specter, chairman of the Senate Judiciary Committee, is able to go ahead with his investigation that will include the NSA itself, it may be possible for Americans to prevent our falling into that abyss from which Frank Church warned "there is no return." As of this writing, however, there is White House and congressional Republican leadership pressure to move the Senate investigation into the hands of Pat Roberts (R-Kansas) and his Senate Intelligence Committee. (According to The Almanac of American Politics, Pat Roberts' American Civil Liberties Union rating is 22 out of 100.)
Now, for those who have forgotten, Sen Roberts was the one who only half way completed the investigation into pre-war intelligence regarding the Iraq war. Remember when the Democrats forced the Senate into a closed session? This was to force Sen Roberts to reopen the investigation into pre-war intelligence. Now, how much do we really trust Sen Roberts to investigate the NSA wiretapping program?
Last week, Nat Hentoff asked everyone to email Sen Spectors to not back down from investigating the wiretapping scandal. Now, we need to go even further and insure that the GOP doesn't procedurally bury this issue in the intelligence committee.

Bush Inc. are desperate to cover this thing up and make it go away. I hope Specter is able to keep it in his committee.
