Idiots On Parade
Over at the Office of the Independent Blogger, I've found myself appalled by recent levels of stupidity in the world today.
We've got several Republican idiots on parade in the news today, and we'll start off with good old Robert Novak. Novak has written an article about some idiot Republican Congressman and the Secretary of Veterans Affairs and how "being right in Washington" can lead to having problems. Yeah, Bob, it can lead to a CIA agent being outed by a shrill reporter that's in the pocket of the Republican Party, too.
The FDA, an organization that recently spent its time attempting to ban homosexuals from donating sperm, has been refusing to let patients who are terminally ill take developmental drugs even if it might cure them and they're willing to risk being damaged further by the pills . Republicans and control of medicinal and/or scientific institutions don't mix.
A couple of days ago I mentioned that we were returning to the table with North Korea and pointed out flaws in the policies and conventional wisdom about the situation. Seeing as how we're dealing with Republicans in Washington there are even more flaws to our approach.
Just hours before North Korea agreed to return to the six-nation talks on its nuclear program, Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice reiterated that the United States would not sweeten the offer laid on the table more than a year ago. "We are not talking about enhancement of the current proposal," she said Saturday.
Don't they see that, if we push them on the exact same deal from last year, these talks are destined to fail? They don't care though: they'd rather fail and make the world a little less safe for future generations by putting off the problems with North Korea for a future Administration to deal with rather than do something horrible like talk to them and attempt to work the problem out because that would be "rewarding bad behavior," as they see it. (I just think it would be "good foreign policy.") There is some good news, though. The Washington Times reports that the Bush Administration is "open" to ties with North Korea, which may be a subtle wink-and-nod to North Korea. (Or it can be Bushit.) But Condi Rice appears to be working in a circular motion with the Koreans and I don't think she minds.
