John Don't Run

Remember the Ralph Don't Run website last year? I'm in favor of someone starting up a similar site for Lord JFK. I'd like to be able to vote Democrat again if the Repubs nominate a clone of GW in '08, but not with His Highness Sir Heinz-Kerry around.

Update: "again" as in voting for the actual Dem nominee for the first time since 1996.

Scott, the scary thing right now is two very likely Dem nominees for 2008 seem to be Bill's wife and Teresa's husband. Let's hope these guys come to their senses.

The most recent 2008 speculative polling I've seen shows Kerry running a distant second to Hillary, 19 to 33% respectively.

While I personally have never liked Hillary ever since her baking cookies quip in '92, she does perform very competitively against the leading possible GOP candidates for '08 - Giuliani, McCain, Frist and Pataki. Fox did a head-to-head between Hillary and Frist, Pataki and Jeb Bush and she out-polled all three. On a FOX poll, no less!! They showed Kerry beating Jeb Bush too, but by less than Hillary would.

The reality is that Hillary is a very shrewd politician. Not just shrewd, but very capable too. Her tenure on the Armed Services Committee has yielded quite a hawkish voting record. The wingers would have a hell of a time pegging her as soft on defense given her actual record.

I don't like her. But, I do respect her.

Her tenure on the Armed Services Committee has yielded quite a hawkish voting record. All that matters is whether she favors the defense policies and systems that benefit the U.S. Her support for and statements about the war were, as I remember, utterly foolish. If Hillary is nominated while a much more attractive Republican make the Nov. '08 ballot (Hagel?) I won't be voting Dem yet again.

Well, the Dem that I would love to see nominated in '08 is Joe Biden. I don't really understand why he didn't run this past election. But, I dunno if I'd ever have become a Deaniac if Biden had been running. He has that "shoot from the hips" style that folks seem to like in Bush. Yet Biden is clearly far more knowledgable on the wonkish details and can carry on an intelligent conversation on something like... say... sovereignty of Native American nations.

I like Biden too...will give him a very long look when he runs. Hopefully Kerry will see 5+ fellow members of the Senate running and stay the hell out next time around.
